Avalanche warning for region Indre Sogn Friday 22.12.2023

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
Strong winds and snowdrift in the morning. Keep a safe distance to areas with fresh wind-deposited snow

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Thursday 21. December 2023

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment

Avtagende snøvær, men kraftig vind særlig tidlig på dagen. Ustabile ferske fokksnøflak vil dannes i leområder. Enkelte snøskred kan løsne av seg selv.
Små løssnøskred i brattheng under skoggrensa må forventes.
